Components of Wireless Communications Technology

A wireless communication system comprises three components: The transmitter, the channel, and the receiver.

Transmitter

A transmitter is an electronic device used to generate radio waves, which helps to transmit data with the help of an antenna. For this to be done, a transmitter takes energy from a power source and converts it to a radio frequency alternating current, which changes directions according to the band the transmitter needs to send in. A transmitter typically comprises a power supply, electronic oscillator, antenna, RF amplifier, and modulator.

Channel

A channel is a pathway or medium through which a signal is transmitted from one point to another. A channel is often a subject of noise, interferences, distortion, etc. And as such, the results received by the end receivers may be filled with errors.

Receiver

The receiver is the last component within a wireless communication chain. The duty of the receiver is to collect information or signal from the channel and then reproduce it as the source signal. The reception path in a wireless communication system comprises demodulation, decoding, decryption, and demultiplexing.
